Hello from Britain!
Just looking to make contact with some reenactors in Russia.

You have a good site, but as you asked about, I check it for mistakes:



Cover for shovel had different variants, but this one one the picture is post-war model. Later I will put the photos of the correct ones.

And:



It is true that soviet mess kit (kotelok) have the same construction as the german, and have a special pieces to rounded it by the belt - like a germans one - but on the countrary to german - never wear by the same manner. We can't find any documents about the belt for the mess kit, or any field manual or regulations, any real belts for this. No original photos. It was common practice to wear it on the top of the erlier issue rucksack (m36), or in the latest version rusksack (m38 or m40) or in the sack (veshmeshok) - puted in the special cover (we have original covers in collection). Only for the early m36 rucksack issued special belts for attaching mess kit to the rucksack's top - 2 per rucksack. But it wasn't a regulations to wear mess kit by any another manner. During the war many regalations was broken, but, as I say, we can't see on the photo wearing the mess kit like the german. Common practice was - attach by the mess kit's handle to the rolled greatcoat or tent (plasch-palatka). Short canvas belt, used by the soldier on your photo - is the issued belt for fixing rolled greatcoat.

Thanks very much, we found out about the cover for the shovel about a year ago and have now all changed to a correct type for wartime - we just haven't changed the picture on our website. I'll make sure that gets done!

Thanks for the information about the messtin and the belt. That explains why he always has trouble getting it round the messtin! :) Also that member used to reenact German so I think he is just continuing with a habit most of us attach our messtins to the top of the veshmeshok.

Thanks again for all this, it's the information we need that is hard to find here in Britain.
